Not playing much 'puter these days

It's weird how life changes without you knowing it's changing.

Over the last year, or maybe two, I have been playing less and less computer games. And actually, I haven't wanted to play many games.

Computer games used to be a release for me, an escape from the real world. But in the recent past I've felt I've wanted to be more present in what's going on around me and playing games has made me feel increasingly frustrated, like I'm wasting time. This is not necessarily a healthy perspective; I think computer games can be a very useful use of time and very worthwhile, but only when they are engaging.

A positive result of playing less computer games I actually finished painting a 28mm WW2 British platoon, which I play with at a local gaming club and I've become more interested in brewing beer; I have a batch of hoppy pale ale which should be ready for consumption in a week or so!

A negative result has been less contact with my old friends. I don't know many people in Carlisle and I've always been an advocate of using computer games as a medium for keeping in touch with friends and family. I miss the days when I'd play for a couple of hours with my brothers online or hang out with friends on xbox live.  This was all facilitated through the ease of use that games consoles give to communicate and play with friends, which isn't as easy on PC.

I do hope to achieve more in the 'real' world. I have a WW2 German platoon and WW2 British Paras to paint up and I'd like to brew beer more often. But equally, I'd like to spend more time with friends online again. I should make more of an effort and not waste time bumbling around when I am on my PC.

Maybe write more on my blog again... One thing at a time though.
